Yep, finally got around to seeing this one. I loved it. Because...

A: Interesting story line, that even though it rambles on for 2 hours, 38 minutes, still keeps my, at times very short, attention span.

B: Rooney Mara's performance is amazing and the black hair, piercings and baggy clothes never looked so cool on anyone (believe me, I've tried).

C: Yeah there are some tough scenes to watch, but overall, I think Lisbeth Sander can be seen as one badass feminist who doesn't take crap from nobody. And yes, girls can work with computers (although the film did feel a bit like an Apple product placement, tsk tsk, but what can you do?).

Bottom line: If you haven't seen The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I recommend you do. Plain and simple.

Really?! You would think in the 21st century women have developed past the whole 'I am solely made of tits and arse' thing. Apparently not.

Okay, I am not trying to hate on women who make their money in that way, in some feminist way it could be seen as empowering as long as you know that there is more to being a woman than playing sex object to millions of horny men who need masturbating material.

But trying to push a 14-year-old to get a boob job and not get a degree in biology because life is easier when you are Page Three girl is just idiotic. Guess her implants weigh more than her brain mass.

Lovely prints at Prabal Gurung: dripping paint, kaleidoscopic and romantic florals —basically anything that the Surrealist, romantic heart desires.

The fact that Gurung used my favourite colour as a constant in the collection only added to my admiration for this beautiful accumulation of pieces.

Another start of the Fashion Week bonanza. The Big Apple's fashion showings haven't really knocked my socks off completely, but then again New York is deemed the most commercial of all the capitals, so this is more about wearability on the street than say a big meringue concoction of tulle, corsetry and lace.

First up is Helmut Lang, which had it's first runway show in five years. The look was mostly based on asymmetry and relaxed silhouettes, save for a structured blazer and corset or two.

As this was Lang, the main colour palette was white and black, with room for a splash of yellow here and there.

Probably very off-topic here on Style Studies, but I would be lying if I said Kurt Cobain didn't have a big influence on my teenage years (and no, I wasn't a Christiane F.).

I am pretty sure ninety percent of teenagers out there will say they love Nirvana, but having read his biography and watched several interviews with him like the ones below, I still find him inspirational.

The fact that Nirvana was one of the most popular bands of the decade and Cobain still walked around in Converse shoes and a T-shirt, the fact that his answers to interview questions weren't controlled by a bazillion PR people; there is just something genuinely authentic and rebellious about Cobain and for that, I will forever idolise him.

So happy to see Valli have a slot in the couture calendar; after all his RTW work does have a couture feel and look to it.

For his first appearance in the Haute Couture circuit, Giambattista stuck to his signatures of feathers, empire waists, crystal embroidery and dramatic gowns, but then again, Haute Couture isn't about being super-trendy and experimental (although the latter can sometimes be true), but rather about the technique and craftsmanship of each piece.

In which case Giambattista Valli never fails.

Givenchy Without Tisci?

With Twitterverse and our little friend WWW abuzz with the news that Tisci will officially be taking over the helms at Dior (I know I have been dying, for better use of generic fashion word, to know who will be replacing Galliano), I can't help but wonder how my significant other Givenchy will fare without Riccardo.

That aside, I think Tisci's romantic gothicism could be translated well into the Dior brand, although I still think Galliano's flamboyant self was a nearly perfect fit. Tisci has proved his hand at couture many times over as well, so taking the reins at such a huge empire should not be a problem, and considering the fact that Dior is big on the accessories, I'm sure he can come up with a Nightingale equivalent for the house.

If rumours are the thing to go by, Haider Ackermann will probably replace Tisci at Givenchy. Ackermann has been on my 'Designers I Love' list for quite a while now, so no worries there.

Still, my heart weeps over what will be the end of a glorious era at Givenchy. Now excuse me while I go through all those past beauties on style.com and drown my Macbook Pro in tears.

How could I have missed the start of Resort collections?

Truth be told, I always do (same for Pre-Fall) but this time I actually had the legitimate excuse of interning full-time and just about being able to squeeze in a shower and a morning coffee.

On to the more important things in life (fashion!), I myself am a bit of a floral-shy girl, save for the odd vintage piece in my closet, but if there were anybody that could turn me it would be Erdem Moralioglu .

His lace and florals are so stunningly beautiful but at the same time vastly intriguing. There is always that hint of something different underneath the 'prim and proper' exterior. Or maybe I just love the succulent colours. And anyone who collaborates with Nicholas Kirkwood on shoes every season gets an A++ in my book

The lack of runway reports on my behalf are shockingly not due to laziness, but rather me being a selective little thing when it comes to which runway shows to look at. Because let's face it if you are a little fanatic like me, you will head over to style.com and click through every collection anyway.

Speaking of new and unexpected reasoning, I am not banging on about Givenchy for the millionth time because it is one of my favourite labels (it is) but because I was very surprised at the look Ricardo Tisci delivered.

My first reaction was : "Huh?" Naughty schoolgirl? Not very Givenchy...." But the PVC and leather sprinkled with ornamental prints and dashes of neon and kitty cats collection has grown on me.

Not that I am the hugest fan of the cat helmets, but the layering of mesh under PVC under leather got my little fashion head twirling.

Yes, layering might not be the safest option figure wise, but it is a lot of fun and especially if you are a bit colour lazy like myself, an interesting way to add texture to an otherwise more laid back look.

Conclusion: Once again, I am Tisci's little fashion slave.

A CSM grad and originally from Suffolk, Craig Lawrence started out creating knitwear for Gareth Pugh. His most recent collection caught my eye at LFW and the pictures below definitely do not do Lawrence's craftsmanship justice.

The figure-hugging silhouettes remind me a bit of Azzedine Alaia, but not as sexy, rather an ethereal vision of femininity, but still just as beautiful.

I have a bit of an unfulfilled love affair with the Meadham Kirchhoff x Topshop range.

Unfulfilled in the sense that I haven't gotten myself a piece of theirs despite oogling over them for months.

The problem: when not on sale I cannot afford, when on sale I cannot find. Pffff. But shelling out a full £250 for one piece at a high street store seems a bit contradictory if you ask me.

My inner nineties child loves the ever so slightly grunge-y undertones in this duo's collections, whilst I find myself surprise to be craving sequinned, dare I say it 'girly' stuff (I am more of a grey jersey kinda gal these days).

Ah, who even knew that Delia's still existed?

Mind you, my fellow fashion friends will probably be weeping into their Topshop/Topman bags (we're not at Birkin's yet, honey) in agony upon me mentioning something so unhip.

But if there is one early fashion memory I have, it would have to be flicking through my sister's copy of the Delia's catalogue back when I lived in the U.S.

The cheesy photo-ops of the 'cool' girl dressed in peacoats for $49.99 and the beauty section where one could order lipgloss stacked towers (why aren't those made any more? Get on it asap Coty & Co.) would always satisfy my lust for short attention span entertainment on boring days. I never actually ordered anything being the cheapskate that I am (or rather was, unfortunately, but let's not get onto that...) and I don't really consider myself a catalogue kinda gal (slower than online buying without the experience of in store buying, double boo) but nonetheless, I thought I would tribute this particularly slow on my part Saturday night to the glory that was 90s catalogue buying.

Heikki Salonen

I had never heard of Heikki Salonen before Fashion Week.

Helping out at Yang Du (who is a doll by the way and does the most fun knitwear ever) as part of the Topshop Newgen exhibition, Salonen was the stand opposite us.

The grey colours, the simple cuts but interesting details all spoke to me in the same way the Vibskov's design do, but in a more subdued colour palette and austere look.

Salonen is originally from Finnland, studied at The Royal College Of Art and designs the womenswear line for Diesel alongside his own label.

Looks like I will be making a trip to Convenience Store (Salonen's only UK stockist) when I get the chance and proper change...

Acne Autumn Winter 2011

The other associations with its name aside, I have to admit I have been label-obsessed with Acne.

Something about the whole Swedish 'too cool to care with too much decorative shennanigans' just gets me.

The A/W 11 collection was typical pared down Acne-ness in terms of the cuts, but colourfully hued leather and some blinding metallics made it anything but snoozeworthy.

Off a-saving and eBaying I go in hopes of my own piece of Acne.

as I have not found the time, energy, or attention span to catch up on everything Fashion Week, I will have to leave you with examples of my written work for uni.

A Midsummer Night’s Drink

We sit in the wheat fields, circled around a small fire on tree stumps, dragging at our Marlboros like infants at a pacifier. Each breath fills our lungs with the grey smog before being released into the mild night’s air.

We talk and drink thirst-quenching beer after beer. As the alcoholic buzz replaces all reasonable intellect with teenage recklessness, we decide to break into a local swimming bath.

After getting our fill of water fights and ridiculous jumps, we retire ourselves back to the fireplace and our remaining beers, warming our adrenaline-revitalised bodies by the pale orange flames and crackling embers.

I see a pale blue on the midnight black horizon. We bathe in the last remaining glory of our night of adolescent mischief and irresponsibleness. For when those first rays of sun appear, they will bring with them the career and university burdens of our post-high school lives. And the spell of being young and careless will be over for good.

Hear Her Howl

Verse: The voice of a Janis Joplin erupts in my ears like a wolf howling at a blue moon, haunting and mesmerising at the same time.

Bridge: The room fills up with the imaginary scent of patchouli and musk getting caught up in a tangled mess of unwashed dreadlocked hair. Janis tries to play it cool in a mumbling deeper-pitched voice.

Chorus: As she erupts in a cry for her baby, her vocal chords crackle in a smoky symphony, singing the pain out of her heroin-toxified heart. With every shriek my eardrums are unsure whether to recoil in response to the atrocious scream or whether to send emotional signals of empathy to my brain.

She ends with one last wail before the 3 minutes and 58 seconds are over. But her imperfections, the slightly askew and off-kilter vocal range, and the soul in her voice all make her live on forever.

A Wedge Of Womanhood

I will endlessly love my black open toe ankle boots. They were my rite of passage. No quinceañera for me: my token of womanhood was Givenchy.

Given to me as a graduation present at 19, the supple leather multi-strap wedges are the roaring lion to my shy lamb character. They are strong, uncompromising and ‘melt a candle without lighting the wick’ sexy. In short, my three least likely attributes.

But when I slip my often poorly pedicured feet into them I turn into that woman. Every step filled with effortless confidence and sex appeal.

They are a truly sadomasochist piece of art. Even though our passionate relationship has often soured after the three-hour mark, with countless blisters and a million squeaky yelps of “Owww” leading to barefoot strolls on the street at two in the morning, I love them anyway. For that day when I tried them on for the first time, I knew it was the perfect fit. Blisters and all.

Paris, I Love You

I walk the cobblestone streets on this January day. Women sitting in a cafe enjoy every rich bite of cheese, every tasteful drag of their cigarettes and every sip of ruby Merlot as if it were their last. The clocks in Paris seem to tick at a slower pace than they do elsewhere.

In true ‘savoir vivre’ form, days are spent strolling along the murky Seine, sipping bowl after bowl of cafe au lait in the historic districts and getting lost among paintings in the Louvre.

On this misty afternoon, I pay the Eiffel Tower a visit. Upon sight, my imaginary life in Paris flashes before my eyes: the shining bronze of antique markets, chain-smoking Gitanes, spending hours with Balenciaga in the Galeries Lafayette and indulging in Bordeaux and Brie until I become as round as a brioche, proceeding to roll down to the Tuileries Garden to witness Haute Couture creations come alive.

Paris holds the key to my heart: wine, cheese and fashion. C’est l’amour.

Liking the cool contrast of latex and polka dots. Does Marc Jacobs ever get it wrong?

I will admit he doesn't take my breath away like my top 3 faves, but even when what he sends down the runway is ugly in my opinion, it still works, and you gotta hand it to Jacki for doing that.
